Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani has told his department officials to dispose of the nearly 2,600 pending cases of employees related to matters such as pension, provident fund, leave encashment, insurance and medical bills. Naithani has ordered that no file should remain unattended on a table for more than seven days.

The education department received 1,106new cases in the last month alone, of which it has been able to clear 475. The department has around 65,000 employees and many of them are unhappy with transfers and postings. Numerous cases are filed within the department and many even in courts, which hampers the administrative functioning.

Naithani has recently started a system of daily reports to check if the cases were being dealt with on time. “I would review the daily reports after three months. Officials showing laxity would be penalized and those showing competence would be rewarded”, he said.
